Petroleum jelly (vaseline) is a by-product of paraffin wax refining process. In appearance, it is a sticky, viscous, colorless and odorless mass. Its melting point is close to the body temperature, which determines vaseline’s main application in cosmetics.
Petroleum jelly forms a waterproof film when applied to the skin and thus effectively protects the natural moisture of the skin, while protecting against infection-causing microorganisms.
